CDMenuPro Flash Player

What is Flash?

Adobe Flash (previously Macromedia Flash and mostly referred to a Flash) is a software application for creating multi-media and interactive videos and animations. ".swf" (small web format and/or ShockWave Flash) is the file extension used for flash videos. Flash videos can be embedded into html pages and played in a web browser when the Flash plug-in is installed. Flash videos can also be played in a Flash player such as the CDMenuPro Flash Player.

Things you absolutely need to know about the CDMenuPro Flash Player

The CDMenuPro Flash Player is an application (exe file) that makes windows and operating elements for the control item (Active-X-Control) "flash.ocx" or "flash??.ocx. The actual Flash player itself (flash.ocx) is embedded into this application following a similar system to websites. As far as your project is concerned what this means is that the CDMenuPro Flash Player can only be played on PC systems that already have the Adobe Flash Player installed.

How can I make sure that Flash videos are played reliably.

1.) The CDMenuPro Flash Player starts by checking whether a "Flash Player Active-X-Control" (flash.oxc, or flash??.oxc, ?? = any version answer-back code) is contained within the same directory. If this file is found, it is embedded and the flash video can be played.

2.) If the flash??.ocx file is not found in the same folder, the Windows registry is searched to see whether the Adobe Flash Player is installed on the system. If it is, the Active-X-Control registered will be used and your video can be played.

3.) If the Active-X-Control cannot be found, a html page will be displayed. The name for this file is "CDMP_FlashPlayer.htm" and is contained in the same folder as the CDMenuPro Flash Player. The purpose of the html file is to provide your users with information about how to download the Flash Player from the internet. CDMP_FlashPlayer.htm can be redesigned to meet your needs using an html editor.

4.) Adobe allows you to include the Flash set-up file on the CD. Please make sure, however, that you read the licensing terms provided by Adobe as the manufacturer of Flash.

Important notice to item 1.)
If you place the Active-X-Control flash??.ocx directly into the Player folder, it is essential that you read the licensing terms and conditions provided by Adobe as the manufacturer of Flash.

Name: enter a short, clear and descriptive name for your flash video (i.e.: company presentation).
File: click on "Browse..." to the right of the entry box and select your flash file (*.swf).
Scaling: use this field to specify whether or not to cut the flash video.

Flash Control
You can use the "Flash Control" - file option to enter details about the Active-X-Control flash??.ocx. When this is done, the file is copied into the same folder as the CDMenuPro Flash Player. Doing this will make it possible to play the Flash video even when the Adobe Flash Player is not installed. Please make sure you read the terms and conditions of Adobe Flash if you decide to use this option.
The Active-x file can usually be found here: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash".

Player window
Here you can specify the starting size of the player and the background colour.

The following structures / files will be setup
A sub-folder called Flash will be created in the project folder. The following files will be copied into this folder:

  • CDMP_FlashPlayer.exe (CDMenuPro Flash Player)
  • CDMP_FlashPlayer.ini (CDMenuPro Flash Player settings)
  • CDMP_FlashPlayer.htm (this file will be displayed if a Flash Player Active-X_Control cannot be found)
In addition to this, a sub-folder is also created within the Flash sub-folder. The name of this folder will correspond to the name that you specified in the "Flash / Name" field. This folder is used to save the Flash file (.swf).

Advanced settings

Access to the "advanced settings" options is done by clicking on the button marked "Advanced Settings..." as shown in the dialogue window illustrated above.

Player Position
The standard settings centre the window in the middle of the screen. The upper left-hand corner of the player window can be positioned using the x-position and y-position settings.

Player buttons
The "Hide Start, Stop, and Pause Buttons" option is used to stop the control buttons from being displayed in the bottom left-hand corner.
The "Hide Audio Control" option is used to stop the speaker switch and volume control from being displayed.

Status display
This is used to hide the status display for the file names and for "Pause and "Play". If the status display feature is hidden, you can choose to display your own text in the left-hand display field.

Exit
This option can be used to close all players started previously before this particular player is displayed on the screen. The "Autoexit" option can be used to close the player automatically 10 seconds after the last frame has been displayed. If you are playing .swf files that contain several .swf streams (such as a Flash film with its own menu), do not select this function.

The registered "Business License" version of the software allows you to replace the "CDMenuPro Flash Player" logo with your own logo. To do this, create an image file exactly to the following size: 210 x 54 pixels. Save this file in the same file as the CDMenuPro Flash player. You must save this image in Bmp format.

Open the CDMP_FlashPlayer.ini file in notepad and make the following changes:
